Meditation Vision April 24, 2007

Last night during meditation I had a vision of a prism that was radiating colors of the rainbow.

I should make a note, here. In the past and now you've seen me make several mentions of visions I've had during meditation. These visions did not arrive by conscious effort on my part. I suppose you could say they are hypnagogic imagery. I am so far deep into trance that I enter into a dreamlike state. I can't hold these images very long, yet, but perhaps over time with practice I will be able to.

For more information on hypnagogic imagery, check out this page:

Strange that you mentioned this, I had this sort of dream or vision at least twice. But I didn't heed them. And things happened as it occured in my dream, which were very short episodes so there were very little details. And the real events occured over a period of time and ended tragically. And I regretted that I wasn't very aware of what was happening around me at that time. Maybe I was too introverted and too selfish to worry about other people at that time.

What do you think the prism represents?

I am just curious what form of meditation you practice? And how long have you been practicing?

Sounds interesting!

Anonymous, these visions or conscious dream imagery don't last very long. They are almost instantaneous, like a flash of an image in the mind's eye before they disappear, leaving me in total blackness again.

I don't know what they mean, but I am open to ideas, and I'm also staying aware in case anything related happens in the waking world.

Mark, I am not sure what it means, but I can offer a little hypothesis. Prisms are filters of light, and once light shines through them, the light is broken into different frequencies giving us colors of the rainbow. Maybe something is shining through me... maybe I am a filter of sorts.

Brian, my form of meditation is very unusual. I do not normally sit in lotus position. I have a recliner in my computer room that I lay back in. If it's during the day, then I put on a sleeping mask, but I usually meditate at night. I always use binaural beats or hypnosis type CDs to help bring me into the appropriate brain frequency, though I have been able to enter these frequencies without the aid of the CDs. Some of the CDs I use are like hemi-sync, or brain-sync.

I started meditating two years ago, and I meditated off and on during that time period, as well as went through a period of about a year in this time where I didn't do any meditation. It feels good to be doing it again. I think this time around I have improved.

I have nothing intellectual add, only that this sounds very neat!
