How poignant it was, to see her running out in the rainstorm in misery and with child, longing for Heathcliff and the sweet days they knew as children!
This aspect of Wuthering Heights, that both Heathcliff and Cathy disregard the child for the sake of their love, must come from a consciousness that is beyond humans, whose thoughts and emotions are tied up in sense experience.
It isn't that these persons would really ignore a child, but that Emily was using seemingly human actions as a vehicle to express a profound spiritual passion between these two.

Heathcliff may be here, but see him pounding the ground over Cathy!
heathcliff pounds the ground
to wake cathy up from her slumber
-she will rise again
