Sarah McLachlan - Sweet Surrender

pay attention
to these words.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
t doesn’t mean much
It doesn’t mean anything at all
The life I’ve left behind me
Is a cold room
I’ve crossed the last line
From where I can’t return
Where every step I took in faith
Betrayed me
And led me from my home
And sweet
Sweet surrender
Is all that I have to give
You take me in
No questions asked
You strip away the ugliness
That surrounds me
Are you an angel
Am I already that gone
I only hope
That I won’t disappoint you
When I’m down here
On my knees
And sweet
Sweet
Sweet surrender
Is all that I have to give
Sweet
Sweet
Sweet surrender
Is all that I have to give
And I don’t understand
By the touch of your hand
I would be the one to fall
I miss the little things
I miss everything (about you)
It doesn’t mean much
It doesn’t mean anything at all
The life I left behind me
Is a cold room
And sweet
Sweet
Sweet surrender
Is all that I have to give
You seem to have a sharp awareness, because the modality of surrender comes from the ego's domination motif, and is not part of the higher dharma.
In particular this song brings up the question of how the Creator regards commonly accepted and so-called "romantic" modality of a woman refusing, and the man imploring. The humans think this is the right game, that is made very clear in many songs and films. The woman says, "No, no," but the man forces his way through her defenses, by giving a show for the senses.
That may work for the animals, but I think the human dharma is that the woman's word is sacrosanct. If she says, "No," then you'd better retreat, otherwise you are giving her no objective reasons to like you and cherish your company. Instead you are a detestable creature, pawing at the form, but missing the heart.
