Pangea Day

On May 10th, 2008 the world is coming together! Fifteen-hundred films made by people around the world have been submitted and a panel is judging and selecting the best. These videos and inspiring music will be aired online on this special day. We will get to see the world from the eyes of people all around the globe. We will get to see the perspectives and viewpoints from afar. We will get to know the world.

I just discovered this online today and in case you can't tell, I'm excited about it!

That looks great! I'm going to check it out.

I just found out about a film being shown on Link TV (for those of you who have satellite TV) about the Fes Festival of World Sacred Music held in Morocco every year. Check out http://www.linktv.org/programs/special_sound Musicians from different faith traditions come together promoting tolerance and celebrating life and music in a unifying way. It's so encouraging that things like this and the film event that you are talking about are happening.

Thanks so much for sharing this.

Thanks for the reference.
Saw a John Waters (filmmaker: Hairspsray, Pink Flamingos etc)lecture and answer session last night and realized that I am way out of the mainstream of what people who know films usually watch. Someone asked him for favorite filmmakers and of the eight or nine he rattled off, I recognized exactly: none!
So a film festival which includes the whole globe is a real treat. I am sure that those in other places have something to say worth knowing about.

Alex,

It's great that you're passing on the info! I told a friend about it, and wanted my blog readers to know about it, too. If everyone tells someone, more and more people will be aware of it and then more and more people from around the globe can come together. :)

Suze,

We have DirecTV, so hopefully we also therefore have the LinkTV channel. I see they're airing this special through the first half of March. I'll have to try to catch it.

Expression through music is one of the things we all have in common on a global level. It's nice that we can focus on the things we share as opposed to the differences we have.

Thanks for telling us about the show.

Goatman,

Don't feel lonely - I'm probably in the same boat you're in! I watch movies and love them, too, but I never pay attention to the people that made them. I probably should, just because in the case of good films, some credit is due them, but I'm just interested in the movie, not the details!

I'm looking forward to receiving the messages that everyone will send on Pangea Day. It's always nice to learn something new, especially when it is through the eyes of someone else, near or far.
