My New Friend

Last Monday, June 25th, we were taking a walk at work when this flea-ridden creature was sitting by the guard's shack taking a nice little scratch at himself. The guard of the building I work in kept trying to "shoo" him away. I, however, instantly befriended him. He needed some work done at the vet's, like being neutered and dewormed, but he is a very adorable little beagle who has found out at four or five years of age that he loves humans. When I found him he was starved and hadn't yet been neutered, and didn't even have a collar with a name tag on, so I knew he was not well cared for. He still needs a lot of work, like obedience training which will start July 11th, but he has captured my heart. He is my new little four-legged friend. This now makes number five. It started in 1998, and I don't see any end in sight. Meet "Peabody", the beagle:

My husband chose the name, using the name of the little beagle dog as seen in the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons, "Mr. Peabody".

Goatman, what you said today gave me such a big smile, and pleasant spirit chills, too. Thank you. I was talking to him today and I told him that I think something divine put him in my path. He's definitely here to teach me patience! The vet said he is four or five years old, but I know he is a puppy, still. He looks like one, smells like one and acts like one, too. He even still had intestinal worms like puppies often have. But that puppy smell is unmistakable.

Welcome Mr. Peabody! You couldn't have found a more wonderful home had you tried.

Jim, somewhere out in the people-making factory they got my parts all mixed up. The part that usually causes females to start wanting children was dysfunctional in my mechanics. Instead, they replaced it with a part that causes me to think that animals are my children!

Christi, Awww! Shucks, thanks girl. :)

I'm wondering how your little puppy is doing. I wonder if, after its bath, does it still have that cute little puppy smell? That's a scent that is precious. It is sweeter than any flower.

She definitely still has the puppy smell (and puppy breath to boot!). It's amazing how quickly they grow - I've never been able to experience a puppy this young before and she's such a doll that I can't believe she wasn't in my life before now.

We need to get the pups together for a pupdate (and us for dinner or what-have you!)

I think our dogs would get along well. We have determined that Peabody is actually a puppy. He exhibits all the traits of a puppy, so very very clearly the vet was wrong about its age. He even physically resembles a puppy.

I am so happy that you get to experience having a puppy, Christi. It will bring you joy. (And it will also test your patience!) Everyone should experience having a puppy at least once in their life. I am sure your children will learn a lot about life through that little guy. My dogs during my childhood taught me a lot about things, like basic caring (food and water, etc.). The best lesson of all, though, is unconditional love.
