Impenetrable

For the moment, he was shocked; she wanted to be quiet and listen to Ave Maria while it rained outside. He tried to read her thoughts but even her mind was silent. This was a new tragic phase. Usually he could get through to her, penetrate her, but not tonight.

You writin' a story...?

Oh no, no story. Sometimes I'm just in the mood to write vignettes.

I do not have the ability to write as an author would write. My mind is not that clever.

But, I had given this thought some consideration: perhaps on this blog we could write a co-story, in which people participate by writing paragraphs of their own when the mood strikes them.

Sounds like a way-fun idea but I'm totally wrapped up in all my blogging and business activities...

Ever heard of Flash Fiction?

Flash Fiction? No. But the name alone sounds like something I'd be interested in. What is it?

It reads promising. It seems like a good idea.
Personally I prefer witholding deep intimacy. It's supposedto be attractive. Like not having sex at all, you know.

Siegfried,

Would you withhold deep intimacy even from a lady you love?

I am a believer that abstaining from sex keeps the relationship exciting. Too much sex and both parties start to find it boring and begin fantasizing about other partners or perhaps even have affairs. When the parties abstain from sex, they're always fantasizing about that one special person and it keeps pleasureable sexual tension constantly in the relationship.

Sophia,

From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_fiction

Flash fiction is fiction characterized by its extreme brevity.

Other names for flash fiction include sudden fiction, microfiction, micro-story, postcard fiction, and short short story,

Flash fiction has roots going back to Aesop's Fables, and practitioners have included Bolesław Prus, Anton Chekhov, O. Henry, Franz Kafka, H.P.Lovecraft, Ray Bradbury and Lydia Davis. New life has been brought to flash fiction by the Internet, with its demand for short, concise works. A ready market for flash-fiction works is ezines; however, flash fiction is also published by many print magazines.

He went to Assen, which is about 60 kilometers from where he lives to see Uriah Heep -- they have a new album called Wake the Sleeper after ten years. He wanted to catch some of the band's magnetism, if they had any. The lead singer looked young inspite of his age. He had long straight yellow hair. He reminded him of old pretty women who tried desperately to stay young and desirable. Anyway, he loved the music, altho he never had listened to it before. (His two boys and their friends loves this sort of music.) He danced to it without stopping for almost two hours; he thought that the crowd was to inhibited to show that much enthusiasm.

Well, not really. That's the reason why I tried to avoid meeting her, altho she wanted to. We fantasize about each other a lot. But we never relate our fantasies to each other. I try to avoid talking about sex with her.

Alex,

I can see myself quickly getting wrapped up in another obsession. Now I'll be trying to balance out writing short stories with making fractals. Pity there is not more time in a day.

I'm not clever enough to come up with plots and story lines, but I do - from time to time - like to write short scenes about powerful emotions.

Sophia said...

Siegfried,

It seems you have the "write" idea. :)

But then you've proven you can write small scenes as you sometimes did on your blog. They're about you.

Sophia,

Years ago, when I used to hang out at a site created by Francis Ford Coppola, http://www.zoetrope.com/ , the rage was flash fiction of only about 200-300 words and most often there was no "plot" but strong single scenes...

I love vignettes, aphorisms, apothegms. Thanks, Alex, for giving me search words to use in Google (i.e. "Flash Fiction"). This will probably be my new playtoy.

Take a look at that Zoetrope site, too...
