Skype

Some people have wanted to talk to me on the phone, and I don't just give my phone number away to anyone until I get to know them for a while, and I can't make long distance calls because my telephone service at home does not include long distance. I have a cell phone but it's a prepaid phone only so I can only use it when I absolutely have to.

I've been looking for a way to actually speak with people online using voice, and I have found some software called "Skype" that allows free calls to anyone else with Skype. So, if you want to talk, download it! The only time Skype costs money is when you call a real phone, but if you're just talking to someone else online using Skype, it's free.

In the top right-hand side of my blog you can see my Skype status. It'll let you know if I'm available to talk. If I'm online, all you have to do is click the button and you can call me. But, you have to actually download and install Skype, first!

Just a warning, though. I'm not quite as chatty on the phone as I am on the blog, so don't be surprised if I seem a little nervous. It'll all go away if I get to know you over time.

OK, go for it!

Hello Sophia,

That sounds like fun. As I recall your voice is very nice.

I have had some experience with telephony and I found that Google Talk was much better than Skype. In addition I read that Skype uses your computer bandwidth for their own purposes.

Still I am tempted to reload Skype just to hear your voice.

Hi Mossy,

Thanks for the compliment on my voice. I don't know if it sounds so great now, as I took up smoking again in July. I am trying to quit again, though. I'm taking that Chantix prescription.

What I liked about Skype was that it allowed me to put a button on my blog that tells people whether or not I'm online. By the way, I'll only be able to use Skype from home, so for instance right now, even though I'm online from work, Skype says I'm offline.

I haven't used it yet, but I am eager to!

I'd like to hear your voice again, too. I've heard your singing voice, so it would be nice to hear your talking voice.

It's funny, I actually had Skype downloaded for a while and finally got around to deleting it this past weekend since I never used it.

Christi,

You deleted Skype the same weekend I installed it! It's kind of like synchronicity backwards.

I used it for the first time last night and I enjoyed it. The quality is not comparable to a telephone, but hey, it's free!

I was thinking about signing up for Vonage, but now I don't have to since I have Skype. I was just wanting a way to speak to people long distance for free. Well, even Vonage is more than my phone bill after you include fees and taxes.

This rain is really something, isn't it?! After leaving work yesterday I had to walk a ways to my car; I was completely soaked by the time I got there! I didn't have an umbrella with me and I don't have one today either. I don't mind, though. It feels so unusual to have rain since we've been lacking. Where I work, we have a metal roof and it makes the most lovely sounds as it pitter patters around.

I once dated a guy who had a metal roof over a sun-room where we would often sit and watch the critters who would happen through his backyard. Very few things are more romantic than being all cuddled up in a blanket and listening to the sounds of the rain.

I completely understand about not minding the rain soakedness (is that a word?) It always seems to be such a spiritually cleansing experience to get caught in a rain and be able to open yourself up to the moment.

Splish-splashingly yours,
~ Christi

Hi Sophia:

Congratulations! Your post of October 8, 2007 “The Role of Reincarnation in Evolution” has been selected as our Post of the Day on “The Rising Blogger”. It is a site that awards posts, not blogs. We will email your winning badge to post in your sidebar and all our info, if you contact us with your email address. christie,
you got that right about the rain. When I lived in Florida, I would go outside and just stand in the rain for the pure enjoyment of it. It was a cleansing of the mind, body and soul. Of course, others just looked at me like I was crazy but they only had it half right !! :)

Skype is very popular in Europe. I use it all the time to keep in touch with my friends. However in your case I would have to remember the time difference.

I might!!!

Hi Jon! I haven't forgotten you. :)

Christi,

That sounds very romantic! It would be nice to relax in a room that allows one to witness nature in the rain without getting wet, while enjoying the pitter patter of the rain. On a metal roof, it's more like, *ting*. Love that sound.

Getting caught in the rain makes me laugh. It's like a big cosmic joke. I can't help but laugh at the irony of it.

Hi Jon,

You have me wondering what the other half is!!

Hi Leighton,

Europe always seems to catch on to the cool things first!

Yes, I think right now you are six hours ahead of me. You are +2 GMT, right? I'm currently -4 GMT, but that will change to -5 GMT on November 4th. But check anyway, to see if I'm online. Sometimes I stay up late at night on some Thursdays, and every Friday and Saturday. Naturally, I'm a night owl.

Anonymous,

You've spent some time and have created a blog of your own. Very nice! But no place to leave comments. :(

I've read all your entries.

You are a mystery.

You live in a wonderful place full of diversity, so many foreigners, so many beautiful people. You study them so deeply and remember them, even in detail. You are very aware of your surroundings and your thoughts. I wish I was that aware!
