I'm getting ready to go to bed, so I thought I'd post something to give you all something to think about. The question is simple. What about the answer?
Ah...ha! I knew you could not post a question and then go to bed that early. :)
I value help to learn what HAS value and what does NOT have value. This is true on many levels.
For example I never would have learned to enjoy ballet if I had not been encouraged to attend many ballets. Now, finally, after many hours of tolerating it I value it. It offers something higher than I knew existed.
Also in spiritual matters it is necessary to be shown, for example, that being present has enormous value, and that sleep is a very bad thing. We must be shown not once but many times before we start to see.
All of these values are self-evident to anyone who would look(study ballet) but why look when you are content with what you have. It is truly gracious and compassionate of those who deign to teach us while we are dragging our feet, kicking and screaming all the way.
Do you mean the enjoyment of watching the ballet or actually performing? Perhaps for you it is both. I know for me I have two left feet, so there definitely isn't any value in my performing ballet, although I have been wanting to actually see a performance.
Oh, as you see I didn't stay up much past 11:30pm. Actually, that is late. I have been staying up that late a lot lately, and I pay for it every morning that I get up at 5:20am to go to work. :(
I would say my connection to God is what I value the most. But I would be lying if I said that. That is what I want to value the most. But if you look at my actions, some nights I value TV much more. I value my job and my house. I'm selfish and materialistic.
But one thing I value very highly is the orchestra I play in. And I value that because that is where my greatest, most obvious connection to God lies. It is only recently that I understood this.
If you go to a ballet sit or stand near the stage. This makes a very big difference and a beginner needs to have every advantage to be able to appeciate the art. Also it helps a lot to listen to the ballet several times first and know the story line well. If you are not willing to make this much effort then you might not get much out of it.
I liked what Gretchen said about wanting to value God. This is kind of how I feel and one of the reason I value help so much. I do not yet know how to value what really has value.
I value a lot of things. Its momentary. If I am talking with a friend I value that friendship and that moment very much. But I can never compare the value of it with this blog and the blogger as I value both almost equally.
I think I should say that I am not able to answer.

Help.
Hi Beard,
Help is certainly an indisposable commodity! In what areas of your life do you think help is most necessary?

I am glad you stayed up. :)

I most value exceptional experiences in meditation because they reassure me that life has a particular purpose.

Good Morning Stacey,
I was talking about watching ballet.

Emptiness.
The Presence
in the present.
Everything.
Moi,
Toi,
Nous,
Et Al.,
Et cetera.
Continuous opening relationship with all that is.
I most value the present moment.
Hi Stacey,
I value a lot of things. Its momentary. If I am talking with a friend I value that friendship and that moment very much. But I can never compare the value of it with this blog and the blogger as I value both almost equally.

Awareness
I think that the main reason I have not awakened is that I do not value it enough. I am still learning to value consciousness.
When I have enough valuation then it will probably be easy to set aside all of the distractions and hesitation and just do it with all of my heart.
It kind of reminds me of the phrase. "You gotta pay your dues if you wanna sing the blues"
