The Path

"For me there is only the traveling on the paths that have a heart, on any path that may have a heart. There I travel, and the only worthwhile challenge for me is to traverse its full length. And there I travel--looking, looking, breathlessly."
--don Juan, from _The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge_, by Carlos Castaneda

Traveling on a path that has heart seems to me to be one of the key elements in firing up passion. And passion is essential on a path that stretches over lifetimes.

There is no path. Because there is no destination.
Get out of the path, whatever it is. You could be in great danger!
Please don't advertise your need for a spiritual teacher. There are a lot of wolves out there!
Unless you are a predator yourself.

So, what's your agenda, Anonymous?

Anonymous,

I appreciate your concern, but I assure you I can keep a careful eye on myself and can discern the true teachers from the false.

Also, I am far from being a predator. :)

Enlightenment is thinking for yourself, standing alone, or traveling on a path that may not lead anywhere. Just being yourself, whoever you think you are.
My most powerful mantra is: Let them think, the stupid idiots!
Actually, I don't do any meditation. I don't believe in a way, path, method, technique, practice, discipline, savior, prophet, priest, teacher, guru, ajahn, roshi, sensei, psychologist, philosopher, scientist, shaman, charmer, charlatan, etc. I don't believe in nothing. Just sunrises and sunsets!
I just let thoughts come and go.
Watch my fears appear and dissappear without much thought.
I don't even know who I am.
I can be anybody!

Yes, a heart is necessary to balance with your intellect.
A heart is necessary, or you may end up being a sociopath, a psychopath or a terrorist.

I agree with you, Anonymous. We could use a little more heart these days. Especially with all the war and terrorist activities.

"One has to reduce to a minimum all that is unnecessary in one’s life.
Once you decide something put all your petty fears away. Your decision should vanquish them. I will tell you time and time again, the most effective way to live is as a warrior. Worry and think before you make
any decision, but once you make it, be on your way free from worries or thoughts; there will be a million other decisions still awaiting you. That' s the warrior' s way."
This is from A Separate Reality.
I feel in my heart, I'm still a warrior.

Castor,

_A Separate Reality_ is the next Castaneda book on my list to read. I will probably read it after I have finished _Sophie's World_. But since I am a terribly slow reader, this might take a while!
