A Pythagorean Synchronicity

Last night I was reading an article in the AMORC Rosicrucian Digest. It was about Pythagoras and his contribution to music. Within the article a short tale was told of how a young man was ill with revenge over being rejected by his lover and wanted to burn her house down. Pythagoras suggested that the young man was under the influence of a certain musical scale and prescribed that he "change his tune" to another scale.

After reading the article I cheerfully kept repeating the phrase "change your tune" inside my head. I thoughtfully remembered how I have heard that phrase before when being reprimanded for something or another. I now finally knew where that idiom truly came from and it tickled me! So I played with the phrase for a few moments.

Earlier today I was reading some messages on Facebook, particularly those on my nephew's page. He had made a clever comment about something or another and someone responded with, "When you're older you may change your tune."

(The digest may be read or heard here: http://www.rosicrucian.org/publications/digest/digest1_2009/table_of_contents.html)

Let's see...What is Sophia's tune...?

"About Me, Sophia
Were I to describe my self, I'd say I'm...."

I guess we all sing the same tune to some extent. Like frogs in a pond on a warm rainy night... "Me, me, mee..
Me me me
Meeee..." :)

I wish that I could get a handle on that affectionate speech stuff. But I am affectionate anyway. :)

You embarrassed me. :(

But I get the hint. I know.

But anyway... that's why I specifically used the words "were I to describe my /self/". Note the underscoring of the word "self". Perhaps I should have used the word "ego".

I had hoped someone would pick up on the fact that I was only describing my ...self...

i love your "About Me"
and got that point about 'self'...

a very courageous and sincere take... two things that lead us to truth...
you are fabulous!

re: changing our tune... and the story here... so true... even literally...
this is energy changing forms... it is true about colors too...

Hi Human Being,

Your words bring me comfort. A lot of the comments here make me think a lot about my own behavior and sometimes what I see makes me a bit uncomfortable. My own ego weighs heavily upon me. I felt a bit more relaxed upon seeing your name. :) We can be tough on ourselves, but then seeing a friendly face like yours can cure me so.

Yes, when I remember to be aware of colors I can sense the energy they put off. I often find that yellow is very energizing for me, and a color I like to see when I'm down, even though blue is my favorite color.

What is your favorite color?

Sorry about that, Don't worry, we are all in the same boat.

We think you are wonderful even if you are not perfect.

btw It is the ego that finds the ego heavy.

Sophia said...

Hi Anonymous, don't be sorry. I'm glad you brought it to my attention. It might have embarrassed me but maybe that is what I needed for it to sink in.

Who is "we"? The last time someone said something so mysterious was when someone said to me, "You are not alone." I was left dumbfounded and it took me some years to figure out just what it meant.

ego goes away just when noticed and loved... take it easy my dearest friend and do what you feel like doing...

and what i see is just a beautiful seeking soul... not a bit egoist!

re: colors... amazing... seems our frequencied are close...
:)

for a very long time (since my childhood till my pregnancy) my favorite color was sky blue... i was attracted to it so deeply...
then during my pregnancy it was green and after that yellow...

same thing you said... it really energizes me...

feels so good to talk to you...
:)
love

I wish I could talk to you more often. Do you think you will ever blog again?

Indeed our frequencies are very close, because sky blue is my favorite shade, and for a long time I switched my favorite color to green, and now back to blue.

Yellow is happy, blue is heavenly and green is life. These are just some of the associations I feel with these colors.

Sophia said...

And love to you, too!

human being said...

wow!
so close, Sophia...

sure i love to talk to you more...
and sure you are one of the people that i really love to read my ramblings...
:D

whenever i find the time, i put some of them on another blog i created a while ago...

now i'm just thinking of giving its address to you...

hmmmm... let me think a bit more... okay?

i'm all alone there with myself... and i should decided when i should come out...

you are so close to my heart...

By "We" I just meant all of the people who read your blog seem to think that you are wonderful.

Don't try to be more perfect. That is exactly what the "ego" does for a living.

Sophia said...

Human Being, please don't feel like you should tell me where your secret hiding place is. I understand that you need a place all to yourself, kind of like having a diary I guess.

I am just glad that you are still around, and that you are not unreachable.

Sophia said...

Anonymous, if I stop trying to be perfect then my growth would stop. I still have lots of adjustments I need to make to my character, etc.

I like the way you looked at this.
I was just about to order a book explaining Phythagora's numbers in colors and tones.

I want to someday be in my Sanctum with ONE color, ONE tone and ONE number to meditate on.

That would be amazing to know each relation perfectly.

Time to change my own tune! :)

Growth and transformation are two completely different processes.

We want to change from a mechanical being into a conscious being, not grow into a better mechanical being, At the same time consciousness can (and must) be evoked from changing one's behavior.

Sophia said...

Anonymous,

Of course my ego would just love to hear that everyone thinks I'm wonderful, but maybe people like me or this blog because they see a lot of themselves here. In other words, we relate to one another. (And, we are related!)

Sophia said...

Frater Mem Key, I've also been inspired to know Pythagoras better, thanks to the Pythagoreans edition of the Digest. Have you been reading them, too? I like that most of them have an mp3 file!

Sophia said...

Anonymous,

Ah, I see the difference now between growth and transformation. You are right - we can grow and be better sleepwalkers, but it's the transformation from sleepwalker into awake/conscious that we're looking for.

I guess I should restate my goal, then. I want to both transform and grow! It does seem, surely, that transformation brings an almost natural bit of growth with it.

Perhaps your higher parts also like to be loved.

Exactly.

Be careful about what you are growing. :)

Sophia said...

My higher part got your message. She says thank you. :)

The art of suffering is wanting things to be different.

To be at ease with things as they are. But one needs variety. It's the spice of life.

Boredom, restlessness, sleeplessness kills.

Revenge is a powerful thing. Its like a burning desire and for it we couldn't just change our tunes. We have to change our minds.

While searching that page, I came to know about this image,

http://www.rosicrucian.org/publications/digest/digest1_2009/05_web/12_rml/12_00_cvr_music.jpg

and InshAllah soon you'll see it in my blog.

Odd that the day after you posted this was a Tarot Meetup I go to. I remember one girl was very happy that I noticed a 'lyre' on an important card in her reading.

She was not sure what the card was saying until I told her, "Perhaps it is saying to change your tune."
She loved it and hopefully it helped with what she was facing.

Your thoughts reach across states of Mind and physical States of being.

Sophia said...

V, you doin' alright? I saw a lot of your comments on my blog and others' blogs all on the same day and I had the feeling you were needing to get some things off your chest, perhaps you were trying to release pent up energy.

Sophia said...

Hi Mania, I do not know if the Pythagorean story is fact or fiction, but there is no doubt some psychology involved. Perhaps the prescription to change one's tune is actually the changing of one's mind and attitude. In that way the story could be symbolic or a type of parable.

I want to thank you for teaching me a new phrase tonight. I did not know what InshAllah meant so I looked it up and now I know it means "Allah (or God) willing". Tell me, what is it about the image that attracted your attention?

Sophia said...

Frater Mem Key, it's a two-way street because it happens on my end, too, like with the Louisville slugger statement you made! I get a kick out of this. Synchronicities abound, of course, but they become really interesting when they keep happening with the same person. I've never had that happen before until I met you.

I have my creative and productive moments. Especially when the Spirit moves me. How I hate you know what I mean.

Sophia said...

V, why do you hate that I know what you mean? I think most would take comfort knowing that they were understood.

But yes, I DO know what you mean. :)

You can channel Spirit here anytime you want to, dear V.

hm well the tree in the background attracted me. :D

Sophia said...

Mania, haha! I should have known. ;)
